‘Nuno is a very good coach’ – Mourinho reacts to Spurs appointing Conte

Reacting to news of Tottenham hiring Antonio Conte, Jose Mourinho has insisted the North London club already had a very good coach in Nuno Espirito Santo.

Spurs parted ways with Nuno and his coaching staff this week, just four months on from their appointment. The Portuguese coach lasted just ten Premier League games in N17, of which he won five.

However, it was the manner of some of Tottenham’s losses that eventually proved the 47-year-old’s undoing, with the 3-0 loss against Manchester United on Saturday coming as the final nail in the coffin.

There is a lot of excitement among Spurs fans at Conte’s appointment, with the Italian expressing his intention to build a team that the Tottenham faithful are proud of.

Mourinho, who was sacked by Tottenham back in April and was succeeded by Nuno, has now had his say on his former club’s decision.

While the Portuguese coach admitted that Conte is a good coach, he insisted that the same is true of his compatriot Nuno.

The 58-year-old said (via FC Inter News): “I think Conte is a good coach, but Nuno is a very good coach.

“He did a fantastic job at Wolverhampton for 4- 5 years, not a year or a few months.

“This is why I say that Tottenham have a very good coach now but they also had one with Nuno.”

It is never fair on any manager to sack him after four months, particularly if he had won half of his league games in charge. However, the atmosphere around the club had become extremely toxic and I believe that is why Paratici and Levy decided to put Nuno out of his misery.
