Nuno provides update on Steven Bergwijn fitness and creativity problems

Nuno Espirito Santo has revealed that Steven Bergwijn travelled with the squad to France ahead of Tottenham’s Europa Conference League match against Rennes tomorrow.

Bergwijn missed Spurs’ 3-0 loss to Crystal Palace at the weekend after picking up an injury while on duty with the Netherlands.

However, it appears the winger has recovered quickly as Nuno revealed he trained with the first team yesterday and looks ‘much better’ today.

Spurs lacked any attacking flair without Bergwijn and Heung-min Son against Palace, so Nuno will be looking to get them both back in the starting XI as soon as possible.

He also spoke about Tottenham’s current creativity issues, claiming the issue would be solved with time on the training pitch and hard work.

Spurs play their Conference League group stage opener against Rennes tomorrow evening and will be looking to bounce back from that woeful Premier League defeat last time out.

On Bergwijn, Nuno said (Football London): “Bergwijn is better, he travelled with us, he trained yesterday and today, he is much better.”

On the creativity issues, he added: “Training, training, spending as much time as we can on the training ground.

“Preparing the players, trying to find solutions and then give them the support and the confidence to compete and try to improve their performances.

“I don’t know any other recipes for success. It’s hard work. Hard work and the boys are doing it. They are realising that in football there are ups and downs and what’s important is how you react to it.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

Even after Tottenham’s three wins in the Premier League, creativity was an issue. When you have the likes of Kane and Son up front, you simply must create chances galore… because they will score them! Sitting back and putting emphasis on a weak defence seems like a recipe for disaster.
