Nuno reveals defender misses Europa Conference League clash due to injury

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Nuno Espirito Santo has revealed that Joe Rodon will miss the Europa Conference League play off first leg against Pacos de Ferreria this evening through injury.

The Welsh international has barely featured for the North Londoners during their pre-season campaign after returning from international duty at Euro 2020 and was not included in Nuno’s matchday squad for last Sunday’s win against Manchester City.

The Portuguese boss admitted that the central defender picked up the injury during the warm down following the Premier League encounter with City at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Rodon attempted to train with his team-mates on Tuesday but was deemed unable to feature against this evening’s opponents.

SpursWeb understands that the former Swansea City player suffered a groin issue but is not expected to be sidelined for a lengthy period of time.

Nuno told Yahoo Sport: “Joe will miss the game, he had a small problem after the game in the training session we usually do in the stadium,” Nuno said.

“Yesterday he tried but he is not 100 per cent fit so he is not going to play. It is a big disappointment because we want all of the players to get minutes.”

It is a huge shame not to see Rodon in action, given the possibility he could have lined up alongside Cristian Romero with Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez not expected to start against Pacos.

Rodon showed enough promise during the latter stages of Mourinho’s time in charge that he is capable of being a first-team regular at Tottenham.
