Nuno reveals the injury issue Japhet Tanganga suffered ahead of Man City opener

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Nuno Espirito Santo has revealed that Japhet Tanganga picked up an adductor problem in the North London derby win against Arsenal last weekend.

Tanganga came off with around five minutes of the pre-season friendly remaining with Nuno admitting that the defender remains an option for selection ahead of Sunday’s Premier League opener against Manchester City.

The academy product caught the eye when he was handed his Premier League debut against Liverpool in January of last year, but has since experienced a frustrating time due to injury issues.

The 22-year-old spent the end of last season and the early part of the summer recovering from the ankle injury that saw him stretchered off in the win at Aston Villa in May and revealed that he considers the season ahead to be ‘big’ for him, while hopefully steering clear of any issues (Football.London).

Nuno told Football.London: “He had a problem in his adductor that was getting stiff. We decided to take him out, he had a couple of days recovering and doing some treatment. He joined the group.”

Tanganga impressed at right-back against Arsenal last weekend, playing a key role in Son’s goal. However, given his track record with injuries, it would be safer to see him sit out the visit of Pep Guardiola’s side, rather than risk a longer spell on the sidelines.
