Nuno reveals whether Bergwijn will start for Spurs against Vitesse Arnhem

Nuno Espirito Santo has revealed that Steven Bergwijn will start the match against Vitesse Arnhem in the Europa Conference League on Thursday evening.

Tottenham travel to the Netherlands for the away fixture but Nuno has already reported that none of the starting XI from the win over Newcastle United will make the trip.

As such, it will be up to the Spurs fringe players to secure three points and retain the spot at the top of Group G when they take on the Eredivisie side.

Bergwijn was an unused substitute for the match against the Magpies on Sunday, which was the first time Spurs fans had seen him since his injury just after the first international break.

Nuno has revealed that Bergwijn has been struggling to return for the past month but he is now ready to play and start the next match, adding that he is a unique player within the Spurs squad.

He said (Football London): “Stevie started the season very, very well.

“Unfortunately, he got injured in the national team and since then he’s been struggling but he’s now getting back.

It’s about getting him stronger, fitter and faster and he’s a very talented player. He’s very unique inside our squad and he can give us a lot. We need Stevie. I repeat myself, we need Stevie.”

Nuno added: “He’s going to start the game, he’s going to play. He’s feeling good so now play good. Be Stevie.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

Competition for places is everything at a top club, especially when the games come thick and fast in multiple competitions. At the moment, Tottenham’s front three is Kane, Son and Moura, but we need Bergwijn and Gil knocking on the door too.
