Nuno reveals why Cristian Romero missed Spurs squad for Wolves match

Nuno Espirito Santo has revealed why new defender Cristian Romero didn’t make the squad for the 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers yesterday.

The 23-year-old started his first game for the club Thursday night, but it was a difficult evening as Spurs fell 1-0 to Pacos de Ferreira in the first leg of their Europa League Conference play-off.

It was a shock for most Spurs fans to then not see their new signing in the squad a few days later as the defender played ninety minutes in the match in Portugal.

Nuno opted for the same back four against Wolves that kept a clean sheet and performed well against Man City on the opening weekend.

The defence delivered again, achieving back-to-back shutouts in the Premier League despite coming under pressure from Wolves’ attack from the first minute to last.

Romero came on for the last minute of play against City but he is still waiting for his first start in the Premier League, and Nuno shed some light on why the defender wasn’t at Molineux on Sunday.

He said (Football London): “When he finished the game in Pacos he was ok but yesterday in the training session he didn’t feel totally comfortable, so we decided not to bring him.

“He’s getting treatment now and I think he’s going to be better soon.”

The defender came to Spurs with some injury problems so it is not a shock he hasn’t made a Premier League start yet.

But having played 90 minutes on Thursday, it was annoying to see him not in the squad but let’s hope he is fit for the second leg, or Watford at the weekend.
