‘Working very hard’ – Nuno answers question on potential new signings

Nuno Espirito Santo has claimed it will be very hard to find the right players to improve the Spurs squad this summer, insisting that Fabio Paratici and Steve Hitchen have a difficult job on their hands.

Tottenham have already completed two singings in Pierluigi Gollini and Bryan Gil, with Cristian Romero now also expected to arrive through the door once Atalanta complete the signing of Merih Demiral from Juventus.

That is unlikely to be the end of Spurs’ transfer activity this summer, with the club reportedly also intent on signing a striker, a right-back and another creative player.

There also remains a question mark over Harry Kane’s future, with the Lilywhites potentially having to dip into the market to replace the England captain if he does get his wish of a transfer to Manchester City.

However, Nuno admitted that it is a case of finding the right players to balance the squad instead of just getting signings through the door.

When asked whether the club should be signing more players, the Spurs boss said (Football.London): “Spurs are always, as you can imagine, working very hard on that aspect, because we need, but I truly believe it’s very hard to improve on our squad.

“We have very talented players, very good players and we need to be balanced of course but Steve [Hitchen] and Fabio [Paratici] don’t have an easy work in terms of improving our squad so we need to be accurate and choose the right players.”

When it was then put to Nuno if he would be pleased if the club did make any more signings this transfer window, he responded: “No, no, no.

“I told you our squad needs to be balanced but it has to be with quality and with something we don’t have, with players we don’t have.

“We need to be very careful to make the right decisions because there are a lot of talented players here in our squad.”

Assuming Kane stays, we still need to sign another central defender, a right-back and a striker to have a shot of finishing in the top four in the upcoming season. With just over three weeks left in the transfer window, let’s hope Paratici is able to pull more surprises out of the hat.
