Eric Dier thinks Ange Postecoglou is one of the top ten managers in world football at the moment, adding that he loved playing under the Australian at Tottenham.
Dier and Postecoglou only crossed paths for six months in England, with the centre-back only being on the fringes of the Tottenham team during that time before he swapped Spurs for Bayern Munich.
It was no secret that Postecoglou did not favour Dier ahead of the likes of Cristian Romero, Micky Van de Ven, Emerson Royal and Ben Davies, but the Englishman still played a handful of games for Ange.

Dier claims that even though he didn’t play much, his ideal style of football is closest to Postecoglou’s out of all the managers he played under at Tottenham – including Antonio Conte, Jose Mourinho, and Mauricio Pochettino.
He also put Postecoglou’s name alongside those managers (and Thomas Tuchel), stating that they all fell among the best 10 managers in world football right now.
Dier said (The Times): “I absolutely loved working with Postecoglou for six months. I learned so much. If I were to be a manager, of all the managers that I worked with, I feel that my style will probably be most similar to Postecoglou’s. It’s just the feeling wasn’t mutual in terms of playing!”

He added: “I’ve been extremely lucky to work with [Mauricio] Pochettino, [José] Mourinho, Conte, [Ange] Postecoglou and now [Thomas] Tuchel. Those five are in the top ten managers in the world.”

I think Dier will get a lot more respect as a Tottenham legend now that he has moved on from the club. Fans always demand loyalty and then discard players when they are no longer useful. Dier was an important part of the club’s growth over the last decade and deserves immense respect.
