‘Of course we can win the Champions League’ says Spurs star

Tottenham Hotspur have made the round of 16 in the Champions League for back to back years, qualifying top of their group last year before finishing second this time around.

It hasn’t been an easy journey either time for the Lilywhites either, after they beat Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund to the top group qualifying spot last year.

This year the club pulled off a sensational come back after taking just a point from their opening three group games, before beating Inter Milan to the second place spot.

Both years Tottenham have also made a good go of things in the first leg of the round of 16, going toe to toe with Juventus away last year, before beating Dortmund 3-0 at home this year.

Last season Tottenham fell in the second leg, but have a far superior chance of going one better this time around as they take a 3-0 lead to Germany.

Harry Kane remains confident that his side can win the whole competition, confidence that Spurs fans will love to hear.

He said (Standard): “Of course we can win the Champions League, anything’s possible.

“I wouldn’t say we’re one of the favourites to go and win it but we’ve shown in certain games, like this year and last year against Real Madrid and Barcelona, that we can beat the big teams.

“The thing for us now is, kind of like this [last] week, when the pressure’s on and we need to step up, we need to find a way to get it done. We haven’t done that in recent years, we haven’t done that this week, and that’s going to be the difference.

“That’s the turning point we’ve got to try and achieve. The most important thing is to get through on Tuesday and, bit by bit, if you beat the big teams it gives you a bit more belief.”
