Official referees body make Graham Scott decision after controversial calls in Spurs vs Brighton

The Athletic’s Charlie Eccleshare has revealed that Graham Scott has not been allocated any match in the next Premier League matchweek after making a couple of controversial decisions during Tottenham’s win over Brighton.

The Tottenham players were furious when Brighton’s equaliser was allowed to stand despite Scott looking at the replays on the pitch-side monitor.

The footage seemed to show Solly Match bringing down Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the build-up the goal, which should have then ruled out the subsequent goal.

There were also some question marks over VAR’s decision to hand Tottenham a penalty in the first half when Harry Kane seemed to be fouled right on the edge of the box by Adam Lallana.

According to the Premier League website, the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) allocates referees for matches based on the “referee’s overall experience, their current form, how often they have refereed the clubs involved and which team the referee supports”.

It now looks as though they have decided to axe Scott for the next match week, although it is unconfirmed whether this is on the back of his performance last Sunday.
