O’Hara left shocked by Harry Winks’ favourite Premier League ground

Harry Winks cemented himself as a regular first teamer at Tottenham Hotspur last season in an impressive central midfield partnership with Moussa Sissoko.

Winks has made the most of the departure of Mousa Dembele along with the injury-hit campaigns which Eric Dier and Victor Wanyama have suffered.

The 23-year-old will next season look to battle for a midfield spot with Sissoko and new signing Tanguy Ndombele.

He appeared as a guest on Jim White’s show on talkSPORT yesterday alongside former Spurs player Jamie O’Hara and was asked which other stadium in the Premier League was his favourite ground to play at.

The former Spurs academy product took O’Hara by surprise when he named Crystal Palace’s Selhurst Park.

Winks told talkSPORT: “I think Crystal Palace is a special place to go because, again, it’s one of those places where sound doesn’t leave it.B

“You know you’re in for a game when you go there. It’s an old stadium, It’s an iconic stadium. It’s a difficult place to go.”

O’Hara seemed somewhat surprised with the decision and replied: “He’s played in the Champions League final, Old Trafford, and he’s saying that Crystal Palace is the best stadium he’s played at. Is he joking?”

Winks justified his decision by explaining: “I’ll tell you why, it’s only because there’s not many of these kind of stadiums about in England any more.”

Opinion

Winks has proven that while there are a number of soulless modern venues in the game, such as the Emirates, unless you are able to pull of a masterstroke such as the new Spurs stadium then it will always be the traditional venues which create the best atmosphere.
