Tottenham Hotspur secured quite the coup on transfer deadline day, snapping up young talent Lucas Bergvall from under Barcelona’s noses. Now, Ange Postecoglou has discussed the signing and what it means for the club.
Last week, Tottenham emerged seemingly out of nowhere to enter the race to sign Lucas Bergvall from Djurgardens. Despite Barcelona’s confidence they could secure the signing, it seems Spurs offered the youngster a better path to the first team (Matteo Moretto).
It is thought current Spurs star, Dejan Kulusevski, also had a big say in the matter, having spoken to his compatriot about how special it is to work under Ange Postecoglou right now (Fabrizio Romano).
The player himself has spoken about how happy he is to have signed for the Lilywhites, describing (via Fabrizio Romano) what a ‘fantastic feeling’ it is and praising the welcome he has received at the club already.
How does Postecoglou feel about Lucas Bergvall signing?
Now, Postecoglou has spoken on the club’s socials about the signing and why he is so happy that the 18-year-old decided to join Spurs.
He said: “He’s an exciting young player. He’s been on our radar, not only through Johan [Lange] but he’s probably on every big club’s radar. There isn’t so many hidden gems around anymore. But he’s got some really great attributes, and he’s a great young man from a great family.
“He was very thoughtful about his next step, which I think is important. He obviously had some choices, and it’s great for us that he decided to join us. It shows that we’re trying to build something here, something people see as a good option.
“I’m looking forward to getting him in with the group in the summer and helping him grow from there.”
