On-loan Spurs man Djed Spence gets plaudits for frustrating former Arsenal star

GFFN have praised Djed Spence for his performance in Rennes’ clash against Marseille on Sunday, with the Tottenham man said to have kept former Arsenal midfielder, Matteo Guendouzi, quiet.

Spence has not had an easy time of it at Rennes since joining the Ligue 1 club on loan in January, with the 22-year-old coming under a fair bit of criticism for his performances against Shakhtar Donetsk (Maxi Foot) and Clement Foot recently (Stade Rennais Online).

The on-loan Spurs man has had to operate as a conventional right-back rather than as a wing-back over recent weeks and has thus had additional defensive responsibilities.

However, it looks like things are starting to look up for Spence, with Stade Rennais Online describing his performance against Nantes last week as his ‘his best game since his arrival’.

The right-back has now been handed another solid rating of 6/10 by GFFN in Rennes’ defeat to Marseille, which is the highest rating of any Rennes player.

The publication wrote about Spence: “The Tottenham loanee was a willing outlet going forward and kept Guendouzi as well as Clauss mostly quiet. A promising outing.”

Joe Rodon was an unused substitute for Bruno Genesio’s side in the clash on Sunday.

Spurs Web Opinion

Spence was always going to be a little rusty in his first few outings for Rennes, given that he had hardly played any competitive football at Spurs in the first half of the campaign.

It is good to see that the 22-year-old is now showing his potential after having had some time to bed into his new surroundings.
