On loan Spurs striker scores two goals on his debut for EFL club

Kion Etete had a dream start to his loan spell at Northampton Town by netting a brace in his first outing for the League Two side this week.

Etete joined the Spurs academy from Notts County back in the summer of 2019 and he has already demonstrated a knack for scoring goals in his two years at the club.

The striker was a regular for the Spurs Under-23s last season, finding the back of the net nine times in 26 matches at that level.

Spurs confirmed last week that the teenager would be spending the campaign on loan at Northampton Town.

The striker will be hoping to get some regular football under his belt with Keith Curle’s side this season and he certainly could not have made a better start to his time at the Sixfields Stadium.

The 19-year-old scored twice in the second half to help Northampton come back from 1-0 down to beat Coventry 2-1 in the first round of their League Cup match yesterday.

Etete’s first goal was rather eye-catching as he flicked the ball up over his own head before turning and finishing past the keeper. The second goal was a far more simple bundle of the line from a cross.

If we are to avoid losing our best young prospects as we did Madueke, Binks and now Cirkin, it is vital that we send these players out on loan so that they can play competitive first-team football. The experience will certainly benefit Etete and hopefully, he will return to the club a much more mature footballer in 12 months.
