On-loan Tottenham youngster gets a red card as his side slip to another defeat

Alfie Devine got a red card against Bristol City as Plymouth Argyle fell to yet another loss on Monday night, with the club now dangerously close to the relegation zone.

Devine was outstanding in his loan spell at Port Vale during the first half of the season, with the attacking midfielder appearing too good for League One.

Tottenham thus made the decision to recall the 18-year-old and loan him to Plymouth in January but the step up to the Championship has not been straightforward for the youngster.

The teenager is still finding his feet at the Home Park Stadium, having made seven league starts since his switch and five appearances as a substitute (Transfermarkt).

Alfie Devine sees red for Plymouth Argyle

Devine started on the left of a midfield three for Plymouth in their trip to Bristol on Monday and it was an outing to forget for the midfielder, who was sent off on 78 minutes after two yellow card offences.

The Pilgrims fell to a 1-0 defeat, which was their fourth loss in five league games, with the result leaving them just a point above the drop zone.

The on-loan Tottenham man will be suspended for the trip to Rotherham on Saturday and he might soon have a new boss, with reports indicating that Plymouth are set to sack manager Ian Foster after the loss to Bristol (The Telegraph).

While Alfie is a fantastic talent, those who have watched him for the Under-21s will know that he is a bit of a hothead and is prone to picking up cards. That is something he will have to cut out of his game as he matures.
