‘On par’ – Pundit claims West Ham are as good as Tottenham now

Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed that the jury is still out on Tottenham under Nuno Espirito Santo despite their impressive showing against Aston Villa on Sunday, adding that West Ham United are currently on par with the North Londoners.

Tottenham came into the game on Sunday on the back of three straight losses, struggling both defensively and going forward.

However, Nuno’s men looked extremely sharp against the Villans on Sunday and could have won by a much bigger margin had they been more clinical in front of goal.

The three points took Spurs to eighth in the table, just two points off a top-four spot and four behind league leaders, Chelsea.

The Lilywhites will be hoping to build on that result after the international break with some winnable fixtures coming up.

Agbonlahor has warned fans not to read too much into the win over Villa, insisting that the clash against West Ham on October 24 will be the real test of the Spurs side, given that the Hammers could be their direct rivals this season.

The former Villa man told Football Insider: “The jury is still out. It was a big result for Spurs. But if you look at it, you look at Spurs and Aston Villa, Spurs should be beating Aston Villa at home at their place, that result should have happened.

“Spurs have got world-class players like Harry Kane and Son, that result should be happening. I don’t think the fans will be getting carried away.

“It’s the next games, can they get a run together? Can they beat the teams around them, the Evertons.

“Villa at home, they’re meant to be winning. We’ve got to see what happens in the next few games.

“They play, Newcastle then West Ham. Can they beat West Ham? You’d say West Ham, at the moment, on par with Spurs.”

Spurs Web Opinion

As encouraging as our tactical approach and performance was against an in-form Villa side on Sunday, the jury is most certainly still out on Nuno.

It is a shame that the likes of Romero and Emerson might not be available for the trip to Newcastle after the international break as Spurs could certainly do with some continuity in the side after the win over Villa.
