Tottenham Hotspur supporters have now singled out ever-present Pedro Porro for praise after a complete display against Everton saw Spurs secure Premier League safety.
Tottenham Hotspur will have had lofty ambitions at the start of the 2025/26 Premier League season following their Europa League triumph the previous year.
But those ambitions were quickly stifled, especially in the second half of the campaign, after a poor run of form saw Tottenham slide from the top five into the bottom half of the table.
Come the penultimate game of the season, Spurs had their tails between their legs, as relegation remained a serious possibility following a disappointing 2-1 defeat against Chelsea.
Despite their overall struggles, Tottenham were in a much better position going into the final game of the season, although relegation still remained a mathematical possibility.
Tottenham fans praise Pedro Porro after Everton display
The Lilywhites needed to lose against Everton, while West Ham United also needed to win for Spurs to be relegated to the Championship.
However, a resilient Tottenham side held firm and secured a hard-fought 1-0 win over the Toffees at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Everyone was immense for Spurs, particularly in defence, but supporters singled out Spanish full-back Pedro Porro for praise following his display against David Moyes’ side.
One fan said: “Huge game from Pedro. Put in an absolute shift. Non-stop running and battling. Next year under De Zerbi, without the pressure of looming relegation, he’ll show that he’s one of the best right backs in the world.”
Another added: “I think he did amazing! like all the defence!, and he has contributed some crucial goals! and enough of them! when he’s a wing back really? So he is perfect! or almost perfect! and somehow a Spurs player! World class! Pedro Porro!”
A third Tottenham fan simply stated: “Thought he was fantastic tbh” while one fan added: “Solid, no mistakes, there when needed”
A fifth supporter had him as the man of the match: “For me he was motm, Up for the fight, got stuck in from the off and does not get enough credit. He gave his all, top bloke”
One more stated: “Pretty good. Having Djed Spence meant his defensive weaknesses were not as exposed, and he ran like a dog. Probably the most passionate player in the squad. Deserves to be vice captain next season”
While a final called for him to be captain: “If he stays, he should be captain. He has got more fight in him than Romero and VDV together.”
Pedro Porro’s stats against Everton show he is crucial for De Zerbi
Porro has certainly looked like a different player under new boss Roberto De Zerbi, and yesterday’s performance was perhaps his best display yet.
The Spanish full-back was solid in every aspect of the game, both defensively and offensively, as he left everything on the pitch.
Looking at his stats against Everton, Porro was handed an 8.1 rating on FotMob, the second highest of any player on the pitch.
He also created three chances, including one big chance, while his passing remained steady as he completed 26 of 33.
Defensively, he excelled with 11 defensive contributions, five tackles, four clearances, one headed clearance, and two interceptions.
