One pundit thinks Postecoglou will lead Spurs to silverware if he is backed

Louis Saha believes that Ange Postecoglou has demonstrated he can be the man to end Tottenham’s trophy drought but the Frenchman insisted that the Australian needs time and resources to be able to challenge the best sides in the Premier League.

Before the start of the season, if you had told Spurs fans that the side would be sitting within touching distance of fourth spot with 13 games left to go, most would have bitten your hand off.

Such was the turmoil last summer on the back of a tumultuous season, with the club’s record goalscorer Harry Kane also departing.

So all things considered, Postecoglou has outperformed expectations but there is a sense of disappointment among the Tottenham supporters about some of the recent results, particularly given how promising the start to the campaign was, which led a few to even dream of a potential title tilt.

Postecoglou can win trophies but needs time to do it

However, Saha pointed out that the Spurs head coach needs time to build the sort of squad he wants before he is expected to go toe-to-toe with the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal.

When asked if Postecoglou is the man to lead the North London club to silverware, the former Tottenham striker told Betting Odds: “I think so. When you look at how things happened, losing Harry Kane, lots of people didn’t really know what he was going to bring. I think we’ve seen in the first few months that there definitely is a style of play that’s been implemented and it’s really good, fast, powerful.

“They did miss a few players that have an enormous impact on the team, Son has been repositioned, Richarlison was sometimes good, sometimes not, that is a part of the game and that’s why I am saying if this team click they can really do anything because there are good players in there. But if you are missing some of the links, you are in trouble.

“I do think that he’s the man, he’s proven that he can do an amazing job at Tottenham. I do think that there’s still a problem with the squad to get there at the very very top.

“As I said with Arsenal, as I said with Chelsea, getting 10-15 players, you can’t do that stuff, you have to get 11 together or something close to 11 players who you know that are very reliable and that’s not easy when you are in transition.

“With the club losing a player like Harry Kane who was top scorer for many many years you have to rebuild so it couldn’t be easy and I think he’s done a tremendous job.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Most fans acknowledged at the start of the season that this would be a transitional campaign for the side, which some supporters would do well to remember. Ange seems to be a victim of his own early success, which perhaps led to unrealistic expectations among a section of the fan base.
