Son Heung-min has admitted that he is delighted with Tottenham’s acquisition of Brennan Johnson and added that he is looking forward to playing alongside the 22-year-old.

When Johnson was asked by Tottenham’s official channel who he looking forward to linking up with the most, Son was one of the names that the youngster mentioned.

It turns out that the South Korean is also licking his lips at the prospect of playing alongside the speedy new recruit, remarking that the step up from Nottingham Forest to Spurs will help the attacker take his game to the next level.

Son will have taken a closer look at Johnson when Wales and South Korea played each other in an international friendly in Cardiff this evening, but the Tottenham man admitted that he is looking forward to watching the player in close quarters at Hotspur Way.

When asked about Spurs’ new signing, the 31-year-old said (via The Evening Standard): “Brennan is another new player. He showed is quality last year at Nottingham Forest and I can’t wait to see him with my eyes.

“He’s a very good player and he has a very good talent. Welcome to Spurs! I can’t wait to play with him. It’s only been four games and we’re looking to keep going in a positive way with our new signing Brennan.

“When he comes to Spurs he wants to improve and go to the next step. He will feel the pressure but I can’t wait to have him in our team playing even better fast and attacking football.”

Son is now the captain of both his club and country after taking over the armband permanently from Hugo Lloris at Spurs.

Heung-min Son is honoured to be Tottenham captain

When asked about leading both the Lilywhites and the Taegeuk Warriors, he said: “It’s a great honour and privilege to be captain for club and country. Being a captain is not about words. It’s by actions.

“I have to prove it and show to my teammates and the team that I can be the leader of the team on and off the pitch.

“I have great players around me with my country and at Tottenham. It was great to score at the weekend.

“But I’m always calm and I never rush when I’m not scoring for a few games because I have 10 players behind me and that’s why we all love football. They help me to become a better person, player and captain.”

Spurs Web Opinion

If Johnson does start over Kulusevski on the right, the pace of Tottenham’s forward line, with the Welshman, Son and Solomon, would be quite scary.

Opposition defences who play a high line would be quite susceptible, especially given the ability that the likes of Maddison and Porro have to pick out forward runs with perfectly weighted through balls.
