‘Ongoing process’ – Postecoglou discusses his plans to trim the Spurs squad this summer

Speaking ahead of the clash with Newcastle United this weekend, Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has been asked about how he will navigate trimming his squad in the summer when all the players currently out on loan return to the club.

Ange Postecoglou has already done a fine job in adding to his squad, and has made steady progress in offloading some of the fringe players at the club over his first year in charge.

However, there is more work to be done in the summer, as Tottenham look to press on and challenge at the very top, both in the Premier League and in Europe.

Postecoglou is already planning for the summer

With a number of players still to return to Spurs from their respective loan spells at the end of the current campaign, there is much to consider when it comes to the future of a lot of players.

In his press conference today, Postecoglou explained the process he and his staff are going through to organise who will and will not be at the club next season.

He said (via Football.London): “It’s an ongoing process. It was similar last year when I took over. It is just part of the process of planning and the difference from last year is we are well into that planning. Where as last year we had to do it on the run because I came in post-season and we had a big squad then.

“We had a lot of decisions to make about players who were coming back from loans, players who could go out on loans, players we had to bring in or move out. This year we are a lot more calm in our approach because we’ve been working on it a while with Johan Lange and the people in the football department.”

It’ll be a very busy summer for Spurs, and I expect a lot of players to leave the club, be it on loan or permanently. There are definitely a load of players here that Postecoglou does not need or want, and they should get their chance to move on now.
