Nuno Espirito Santo has been lavishing praise on Tottenham’s latest signing, Emerson Royal this afternoon in his pre-match press conference ahead of Crystal Palace away.
Spurs signed Royal from Barcelona on transfer deadline day for around £26m, with the Brazilian right-back penning a contract until 2026 (Sky Sports).
Reports emerged this morning that Nuno could hand the full-back a surprise debut against Palace on Saturday, just a week after he linked up with the first-team squad.
This comes after Spurs suffered a rather unfortunate international break, with defenders Cristian Romero and Davinson Sanchez now stuck in Croatia for the week.
Nuno has now revealed that Emerson mainly hangs around with his Brazilian compatriot, Lucas Moura as he cannot speak great English yet.
However, he had plenty of nice words to say about the defender’s talents, implying that he will be used as a more attacking right-back.
He said (Charlie Eccleshare): “Good player, very talented.

“Showed himself in la Liga, which is a tough competition. We bring him because we think he can help us. An offensive fullback – aspects to improve but that’s our job.
“Settled well – has to improve his English. At the moment, only hangs around with Lucas.”
Spurs Web Opinion:
I expect Emerson to be used as a more attacking right-back option, then Japhet Tanganga as the defensive option. Matt Doherty may not kick a ball too often this season, unless injuries strike. Emerson could also play alongside Tanganga in a back five.
