Only one Tottenham player actually missed out on Premier League squad

Tottenham academy graduate Brooklyn Lyons-Foster has not been included by Ange Postecoglou in the club’s 25-man Premier League squad this season.

Tottenham and the other 19 sides submitted their 25-man squad for the season to the Premier League on Wednesday.

Among the 25, clubs are allowed to name a maximum of 17 non-homegrown players, with players qualifying for homegrown status if they had registered with any club in England or Wales for three years before their 21st birthday.

Meanwhile, clubs are also allowed to name a separate Under-21 list, which the likes of Destiny Udogie, Pape Matar Sarr and Alejo Veliz are part of.

Hugo Lloris was chosen ahead of Lyons-Foster

Football.London’s Rob Guest explained on Tuesday that Postecoglou could name the versatile Lyons-Foster in the 25-man squad if he chooses against including Hugo Lloris.

However, Lloris is part of the final squad submitted by Spurs, which means that 22-year-old Lyons-Foster finds no place in the list.

That means that Postecoglou cannot turn to the centre-back, who has played 89 times for the club’s Under-21s in his career, even if there is an injury crisis.

Ange’s decision to include Lloris over Lyons-Foster means that Tottenham are not going to terminate the Frenchman’s contract at least until the January transfer window.
