‘Open to a new page’ – Journalist reveals Spurs target is keen on move in January

Turkish journalist, Ekrem Konur has revealed on social media that Tottenham Hotspur are one of three English sides chasing Schalke defender, Ozan Kabak.

Kabak has been a long-term target for Spurs (Daily Mail), having been on the North Londoners’ radar since the summer of 2019 before Schakle met his £13.5million release clause to snap him up from Stuttgart (Sport Bild).

The 20-year-old centre-back’s reputation has blossomed further at Gelsenkirchen and he is now recognised as one of the Bundesliga’s most sought-after youngsters.

During the previous transfer window, Turkish journalist Mehmet Demirkol even told beIN Manset (as relayed by Sport Witness) that the defender was on his way to Tottenham.

However, the move did not materialise and Schalke are having a season to forget as the Royal Blues currently sit at the bottom of the Bundesliga table.

Konur has now asserted that Spurs are competing with Liverpool and Manchester United for Kabak and that the Schalke man is keen to leave the Bundesliga and open up a new page.

He claims that the German club are unwilling to accept offers lower than €20m (£18m) for the centre back.

Spurs Web Opinion

A central defender is likely to be at the top of Jose Mourinho’s list of priorities in January particularly if  Sanchez leaves the club. However, Kabak, like Rodon, is not proven at the highest level and signing him would thus carry an element of risk. I suspect Jose might prefer a more tried and tested option like Skriniar to lead the backline.
