Tottenham Hotspur defender Jonathan Woodgate has undergone minor surgery on a groin injury.
The former Middlesbrough stopper has not featured in any of Tottenham’s pre-season fixtures due to the problem and will not feature in the Premiership opener against Liverpool on Sunday.
Fellow defender Michael Dawson is also highly doubtful for the game at White Hart Lane with an Achilles injury. Woodgate will now begin a rehabilitation programme as he looks to get back to action.
Recent signing Sebastien Bassong is expected to partner Ledley King at the heart of the Tottenham defence.
