Opinion: Current Spurs first-team squad ranked by importance to the team – Kane not top

Tottenham Hotspur may have a new boss at the helm in Jose Mourinho, but which of the current crop of players is the most important to the club at this moment?

We wanted to take a look through the current first team and decide which players are pivotal to the success of the club and which are expendable.

For the purposes of this, the likes of Troy Parrott, Alfie Whiteman, Jack Clarke, and co were not considered to be first-team regulars.

26 – Michel Vorm – Third choice keeper leaving on a free.

25 – Jan Vertonghen – I am certain he will leave on a free this summer.

24 – Danny Rose – I think he still has something but can’t see him staying.

23 – Kyle Walker-Peters – Not quite good enough and will likely be sold.

22 – Juan Foyth – Will likely be sold this summer.

21 – Paulo Gazzaniga – Not sure he will ever be given the number 1 jersey.

20 – Serge Aurier – Poor defensively and won’t be here too much longer.

19 – Ben Davies – Important for the Jose formation but is a squad player at best.

18 – Erik Lamela – Replaceable but still a great squad player off the bench.

17 – Gedson Fernandes – Still an unknown entity but looks very promising.

16 – Eric Dier – Could be a decent central defender if he has a good 2020/21 season.

15 – Harry Winks – Will run through brick walls for the team.

14 – Davinson Sanchez – On the fence as to whether he can make it.

13 – Oliver Skipp – The future of the Spurs midfield, although not for a few years.

12 – Lucas Moura – Not consistent enough but still a class act to have in the squad.

11 – Ryan Sessegnon – The future of the left-back position at Spurs.

10 – Steven Bergwijn – Looks very promising on the left-wing.

9 – Hugo Lloris – Getting on a bit but still the captain and a World Cup winner.

8 – Dele Alli – Not performing at top gear but still class on his day.

7 – Tanguy Ndombele – It is important that Spurs have not wasted their money here.

6 – Toby Alderweireld – Lost half a yard but still a leader and an experienced talent.

5 – Japhet Tanganga – Huge importance as the future of the Spurs defence.

4 – Giovani Lo Celso – The only naturally creative star in the squad at the moment.

3 – Moussa Sissoko – The engine that keeps Spurs running in the current squad.

2 – Harry Kane – Mr Tottenham but his injuries do let him down.

1 – Heung-min Son – Irreplaceable and nips ahead of Kane due to fewer injuries.
