Opinion – Erling Haaland: A flash in the pan or worth the investment?

Spurs are going to need to make a transfer statement in the coming windows and Haaland may just be the player they need. He has been a revelation in the Champions League this season, scoring 7 goals in 4 games but of course, he is untested in a competitive league and could be a one-season wonder risk in terms of an investment. Spurs have been linked to the player of late (Star), but is he worth the gamble?

Pros:

He is 19-years-old and has huge potential. He has shown that he can play well in the Champions League and may want to challenge himself by playing in the Premiership.

Coming into a team that already have players in his position mean that he won’t be expected to start straight away. This would be beneficial as he gets to know his teammates and the way they play. It will also remove any immediate pressure.

He may not be that expensive if Spurs move for him sooner rather than later. A high offer in January may be too good for Salzburg to turn down, considering their sporting director has already accepted that he will be on his way out the club before too long Transfermarkt.

If it didn’t work out, it would be reasonable to assume that Spurs would be able to sell him again and likely make most of their money back due to the form he is currently showing.

Mourinho could be a draw.

Cons:

He is unlikely to want to come to Spurs with his father’s links to Man City and the poor form that Spurs are currently in.

He may just be a flash in the pan and then Spurs would look foolish for spending lots of money on the potential of a young player rather than spending it on a tried and tested player.

He would be playing in a position that Spurs already have options for in Kane and Son.

Opinion:

Overall, I would say that he is worth taking the gamble on, as it would be good to see Spurs sign a striker who could play alongside Kane or in front of Kane, if Harry drops into the 10 position. It would also be quite a statement for Spurs to make and finally give fans something to shout about!
