Opinion: Five Spurs players who let the side down tonight against Man United

Tottenham Hotspur’s winning run under their new man Mourinho has come to an end with a loss against his old club, Manchester United.

Spurs are now nine points off the top four again, and their leaking defence continues to be a huge thorn in the side of the team.

Let’s have a look at the five players who let the side down tonight against the Red Devils:

Paulo Gazzaniga –

Pulled off some nice saves throughout the match, but none of that really matters when you let an unforgivable one in at the near post in the first ten minutes. It set Spurs off on the wrong foot and left them chasing the game.

Serge Aurier –

Was beaten time and time again at full-back, which often happens when he is asked to defend. The upside was that he got into some great positions on the right-wing, but he wasted the vast majority of the crosses.

Moussa Sissoko –

Gave away a sloppy penalty when the Man United player was going nowhere. Ultimately, that cost Tottenham the game. Sissoko was also poor in possession and was unable to bring any solidity through a Spurs midfield that Man United carved through again and again.

Harry Kane –

Almost forgot he was playing today. I can’t even blame that on him being isolated up front, as he often came deep to make space for Dele in behind. His touch was off, he created no chances for himself, and he didn’t seem to have the energy tonight.

Lucas Moura –

Compare his game at Old Trafford last season to tonight. Night and day. Moura was awful on the ball and didn’t do enough tracking back either. He has a big chance to make an impression under Mourinho, but he needs better performances than tonight.

Honourable mentions:

Heung Min Son, Harry Winks, Jan Vertonghen, Davinson Sanchez, and Toby Alderweireld were also pretty awful. (Yes, that is everyone apart from Dele).
