Opinion: Five Spurs players who looked appalling against bottom-of-the-table Norwich

Tottenham Hotspur may have won the game 2-1 last night, but some individual player performances against bottom of the league Norwich City left a lot to be desired.

Let’s take a look at the five worst-performing Tottenham stars of the night:

Ryan Sessegnon –

He gave the ball away time and time again on the left-wing, often in dangerous positions. When compared to Aurier on the right or even Rose when he plays, Sessegnon still doesn’t offer enough going forward yet for me either. The youngster also gave away a silly penalty. Of course, he is going to have bad games as he develops, but this is one to forget.

Erik Lamela –

Often so assured on the ball and creative going forward, Lamela couldn’t get his feet working last night. Gave it away too much, wasted good opportunities to create chances, and wasn’t able to get much of a foot in defensively either.

Eric Dier –

You know he looked bad when he makes the list despite not even starting the match. He came on to try and mimic that Harry Winks sweeper role and looked miles off the pace. He was at fault in the build-up to the penalty being given away and eventually had to be moved back into defence instead.

Toby Alderweireld –

Usually so accurate with his long balls, Alderweireld was clipping them aimlessly last night. Even when they went towards Moura, they were performed in such a way that the Brazilian could only flick them on into empty space at best. Toby also struggled to deal with Pukki in the air.

Jan Vertonghen –

Experience behind Sessegnon was needed last night, but Vertonghen looked equally clueless at times. Seems to struggle with the pace these days and often steps off attackers rather than going in for the tackle.
