Opinion: Five Spurs stars who should hang their heads in shame after League Cup exit

Tottenham Hotspur were absolutely dismal against Colchester tonight. Not one player stood out as a good performer in the Carabao Cup, but some were more guilty than others.

Here are the five players who should hang their heads in shame after that performance:

Christian Eriksen –

He was brought on in the second half to change the game and create some chances. His passing was wayward, he spent most of his time on the halfway line, and his end product was woeful. To top it all off, he then missed yet another penalty for Spurs in the shootout.

Lucas Moura –

Started the game really well and looked to be causing the Colchester defence all kinds of problems. However, he had no end product and drifted severely as the minutes ticked by. As one of the most experienced players starting the match, he should have been leading the team to victory. The nail in the coffin was his awful penalty, which he blazed over.

Dele Alli –

All show and no go. Alli was trying all the flicks and tricks against Colchester, but failed to come up with anything resembling any quality when it came to actually creating something or scoring a much-needed goal.

Kyle Walker-Peters –

Wasn’t up to it defensively and failed to make the most of his attacking chances. KWP had all the space in the world tonight, but only delivered one decent cross in the 90 minutes. Managed to hit the post with a teasing ball, but failed to pick out his teammates again and again after getting into good spaces.

Eric Dier –

Captain for the day, I wanted to see more leadership from Dier. That team needed a kick up the arse and some drive from the back. They needed Dier screaming in their ears to wake up. I also believe that Eric should have been stepping up for a penalty with his experience from the spot, over the likes of Eriksen and Lucas.
