Opinion: Five things we learned from the win over Aston Villa in the Premier League

Tottenham Hotspur secured a third win in a row in the Premier League today away to Aston Villa, but it took until the 93rd-minute for them to do so.

Heung Min Son finally made the Spurs chances count after latching onto a last-minute Villa error in defence, making it 3-2 on the day.

Let’s take a look at the five things we learned:

Gap down to one –

Tottenham are now just one point behind Chelsea in the race for the top four. Spurs also overtake Sheffield into fifth with that win. The Blues play against Man United tomorrow night, and Spurs will be hoping to see them drop points.

Spurs are safe –

It has taken them until mid-February, but Spurs have reached the magical 40-point mark and look to be safe from relegation.

Davies is back –

Ben Davies was back from injury and straight in the side. The Welshman made a block on the line in the first half to prevent it from becoming 2-0 to the hosts. He was also arguably Tottenham’s best defender today. Good to have him back.

Bergwijn growing into the side –

Not only did Bergwijn grow into the game today, but he is also growing into the side. He has tended to be rather quiet in the first half of his two games, before exploding in the second half with pace and power. Looks to be some player this lad.

Perfect start to a tough week –

Spurs face RB Leipzig in three days, before Chelsea away from home another three days after that. However, these three points will certainly inject some extra energy into those Tottenham legs, as they look to continue their Champions League journey and break into the top four.
