Opinion: Five Tottenham players who did the fans proud against Liverpool

Tottenham Hotspur lost 1-0 to Liverpool tonight at their new stadium, continuing their winless run in all competitions, as the Reds extend their lead at the top.

However, despite the defeat, there were positives to take for Spurs, so let’s take a look at the five Tottenham boys who did the fans proud.

Japhet Tanganga –

What a debut from this young man! He slotted into that defence like he had been there for years, keeping Mane quiet for the vast majority of the game and then filling in at left-back even though he had picked up a knock. Simply must be chosen consistently now.

Davinson Sanchez –

The club’s best defender, simple as that. Sanchez was a brick wall tonight. Anything that came down the left, he dealt with. Everything in the air, he gobbled up. Even when a player made it in behind the other defenders, he used his pace to cover.

Toby Alderweireld –

Controlled that tricky interchanging Tottenham defence well, bar one slip. Definitely still has enough quality to offer something to Spurs and to warrant that new contract. Class act.

Lucas Moura –

The most underrated performance of the day. Moura held the ball up, took Liverpool players on, won free-kicks, and made a nuisance of himself all game when other Spurs players failed to. Such a talented player with the ball at his feet.

Paulo Gazzaniga –

Wasn’t called on too many times, but Gazzaniga made some smart stops today. He also made himself known by bossing his defenders around and started some good counter-attacks with that long kick.
