Opinion: Four players who were shockingly bad against Middlesbrough

Tottenham Hotspur were handed a break from the Premier League this weekend, instead taking part in the FA Cup with a trip to Middlesbrough.

However, Spurs could only manage a 1-1 draw against the Championship side, thus earning a replay to see who progresses to the next round.

Let’s take a look at four shocking players who disappointed in the FA Cup:

Jan Vertonghen –

Once the most consistent player in the Tottenham line-up, it just seems to be mistake after mistake from the Belgian now. Whether it’s a lack of pace, a bad touch, a poor decision, or lack of marking, he leaves Spurs open time and time again.

Dele Alli –

Just as we thought we were getting the old Dele back, he has retreated back into his shell over the past month. Alli was playing central midfield today, but seemed preoccupied with pulling off fancy tricks and diving on the floor instead of doing his job.

Heung Min Son –

After having a couple of weeks off due to his red card suspension, you would expect Son to come back with a point to prove and energy to burn. However, it was a flat and uninspiring performance from the South Korean today, as he barely influenced the game.

Christian Eriksen –

Is he staying? Is he going? We simply do not know. But Eriksen seemed scared to make a challenge today in midfield, and lacked his usual creative spark.
