Opinion: Gareth Southgate drops hint that four injured Spurs stars will be fit for Champions League final

Tottenham Hotspur are still walking wounded from a long and tough Premier League campaign this season, but the fight is not over yet.

Spurs may have secured top four, but they still have a Champions League final to contend with before they can jet off on their holidays.

Tottenham take on Liverpool in Madrid on June 1st in what will be the club’s first ever appearance in the final of the competition.

However, the Physio Room claim that Spurs still have six first-team players out injured ahead of what is perhaps the club’s biggest ever match.

Dele Alli and Jan Vertonghen have muscular and ankle injuries respectively, while Davinson Sanchez also struggles with a thigh problem and Danny Rose with a hamstring issue.

Longer-term absentees, Harry Kane and Harry Winks have also been out with an ankle ligament injury and a groin problem respectively.

However, I believe that Gareth Southgate’s latest squad announcement (BBC) reveals Spurs are confident that Rose, Winks, Kane and Alli will all be fit enough to feature in Madrid.

Southgate named these four injured stars, as well as Eric Dier and Kieran Trippier in the 27-man preliminary squad.

It seems unlikely to me that Pochettino and Tottenham would allow the players to take part in competitive internationals unless they were 100% ready.

Seeing as the Nations League games are only a matter of days after the Champions League final, it seems a safe bet that anyone available for England will also be available for Spurs.
