Opinion – Halloween Tottenham XI – A line-up made up of the club’s scariest flops

As it’s Halloween, we thought we would look back over some of Tottenham’s most infamous Premier League flops to make one terrifying starting XI.

Starting off in goal, we have perhaps a harsh decision… Heurelho Gomes. A wonderful shot-stopper, but you never knew what you were going to get with a ball headed straight for his gloves. Butterfingers.

At left-back, we have gone for Gilberto, for obvious reasons. One of the most widely-regarded Tottenham flops of all time, he had to make the team.

Federico Fazio and Ryan Nelson make up perhaps the slowest central defensive partnership in the history of the game, with neither one of them making any positive impact in North London.

At right-back, we have gone far closer to home by picking Serge Aurier. The Ivorian has been a walking disaster ever since his move from PSG, summed up perfectly by his Halloween-esque October.

In midfield, we have the biggest anticlimax in Tottenham history, Paulinho, partnering the shocking Benjamin Stambouli. Neither one delivered anything close to what was promised after joining the North London club, but they did have a certain comedy factor.

On the wings, we have Clinton N’Jie and David Bentley. The former was never able to force his way into Poch’s plans, while Bentley was tipped to be the next Beckham and flopped harder than a pancake on Shrove Tuesday.

Who else could we name up front but Roberto Soldado? Experienced. Goalscorer. Wily in the box. A certain 20-goal a season man. Tottenham got none of these things when they signed Roberto.

Partnering Goal-dado we have gone for Helder Postiga, the youngster who was supposed to be the next big thing, but it was all a case of too much too soon for the kid.

What do you think? Did we miss anyone?
