Opinion: Harry Kane is still underappreciated by some Spurs fans

I don’t think people realise how lucky we are to have Kane and there are certainly some Spurs fans who I have seen take him for granted, especially in recent seasons.

Where else to start but his world-class goal record. Harry Kane has the best strike rate in Premier League history out of all of those who have scored over 100 (Wikipedia):

Harry Kane = 0.70
Sergio Aguero = 0.69
Theirry Henry = 0.68

What makes this stat even more mind-boggling, is the fact Harry may not even be in his prime yet. Of course, it’s impossible to know when a player will hit their peak but he continues to add more to his game each year. He’s probably our best long passer as well as goal scorer.

These are stats from the age of about 21 to 26, and strikers tend to hit their peak about 28-29 so the best could still be to come. If he had a premier league trophy he would be considered one of the greatest strikers in Premier League history (like Sergio Aguero).

His statistics already back that up, and he may not have won a trophy but he’s taken us from battling for 6th to consistent top-four finishes and a champions league final.

Now let’s look at the number of goals he’s scored in each Premier League Season for Spurs (Premier League):

2014/15 = 21 Goals 34 Games
2015/16 = 25 Goals 28 Games
2016/17 = 29 Goals 30 Games
2017/18 = 30 Goals in 37 Games
2018/19 = 17 Goals in 28 Games
2019/20 = 2 Goals in 1 Game (So Far)

In 2017, Harry Kane outscored every footballer in Europe’s top five leagues, with an astonishing 56 Goals in 52 Games (BBC).

He broke the record for most Premier League goals in a calendar year, and really staked his claim as the best striker in the world (90 Min).

Not only does he have goals, but his overall play is so pivotal to the way Tottenham and England function. This is evident by his three Golden boots, two in the Premier League, and one in the 2018 World Cup. If Harry could avoid injury, I feel like he would be guaranteed the golden boot.

I don’t think many Spurs fans realise how good his goal-scoring record is in the Champions League either (Transfer Markt):
19 Games
14 Goals
3 Assists

Prior to the Champions League final, he had the best CL goal to game record, but it is still up there with the very best. All Harry Kane needs now is trophies to show that he is one of the greatest strikers in history. Hopefully this season we can deliver one.
