Opinion – Harry Kane should not play in the Champions League this week

Tottenham Hotspur may have eclipsed Crystal Palace at home this weekend, but they are unlikely to have such an easy task in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Spurs take on the tough Olympiacos, who are unbeaten and without a goal conceded so far this season.

Pochettino will hopefully want to field his strongest side against the Greek opponents, but I would argue that he should drop Harry Kane to the bench in place of Lucas Moura.

There are a few reasons for this. Number one, Kane has already played a lot of football over the past two weeks, including two full internationals for England.

The striker played very well in a holding and supporting role against Palace, but I feel as if he would be an unnecessary risk against Olympiacos.

The times I have seen this team, they are not afraid of a tough challenge, and I worry about Kane’s ankles out there. I also think that Moura deserves a bit of time on the pitch from the start.

Poch also has to think about the important away match against Leicester coming up in the Premier League and perhaps it would be best to save Kane for that.

I think a speedy Son and Moura on the shoulder against an Olympiacos who will want to come out and play at home may be more effective than Kane on this occasion.
