Opinion: How Spurs could line up against Man Utd in their first game back

The Premier League season could restart in the middle of June after a break of more than three months, with the UK Government giving the green light for sporting action to resume (BBC Sport).

Tottenham Hotspur’s clash at home against Manchester United is expected to kick off proceedings according to The Sun.

Jose Mourinho will have the luxury of picking from a fully fit squad for the first time since arriving at the club back in late November.

The likes of Harry Kane, Moussa Sissoko, Son Heung-min and Steven Bergwijn were all out of action when football was suspended back in March but all players are expected to be fully fit when the season resumes.

The Spurs boss will certainly have some selection headaches with a fully-fit squad available.

Here’s how we at Spurs Web expect the Lilywhites to line up at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium against Manchester United:

While Mourinho has preferred to use a 4-2-3-1 formation for the most part during his time in North London, it has been evident that the Portuguese coach has put his own spin on the formation.

For example, he prefers to defend with a back four which switches to a back three when we have the ball with Aurier overlapping to provide the width on the right-hand side.

While most of the players in the team pick themselves, the two big question marks will be over whether Moussa Sissoko plays ahead of Harry Winks and who Jose will go with between Steven Bergwijn and Lucas Moura.

Toby Alderweireld’s spot could also be under threat from either Eric Dier or even Japhet Tanganga.

However, what is clear is that we are going to have some great options on the bench with the likes of Bergwijn, Lamela and Ndombele all capable of changing the game.

It is certainly going to be interesting to see what new tricks Mourinho is going to have up his sleeve given that he will also have a lot of time to drill the team on the training ground.
