Opinion: I really hope that this rumour about Pochettino isn’t true

Perhaps the most surprising event for Tottenham Hotspur fans in the summer transfer window was the report that Juventus had accepted a £64.4m bid for Paulo Dybala (Sky Sports).

This was finally the big name that Spurs fans had been wanting to take the club to the next level, but Tottenham were unable to get it over the line in time.

A report has now emerged claiming that Pochettino turned down the chance to exchange Dybala for wantaway Christian Eriksen, hoping that the Dane would sign a new deal (Daily Mail).

It was claimed this week that Eriksen refuses to even sit down and discuss a new contract (Express).

I really hope that this report about a swap deal isn’t true, because it would have literally been the perfect scenario for Tottenham.

They would have got some money for Eriksen, who they risk losing on a free. They would have offloaded a player who has dreams away from the club. And they would have signed a hungry young star in return, without having to pay a penny in cash.

I would have been over the moon with this deal if it had gone through and I just can’t imagine why Spurs would have turned it down.

Perhaps it is worth revisiting in January with a player plus cash deal for Dybala if he is still a Juve player.
