Opinion: Jose Mourinho has made a mistake with his Champions League squad

I believe that Jose Mourinho has made a big mistake with his Champions League squad for the match against Bayern Munich tomorrow night.

The game has absolutely nothing riding on it, as Bayern have already secured the top spot in the group and Spurs have guaranteed themselves second.

No matter what the result tonight, the table will remain the same for the top two sides, giving Mourinho the chance to rest key players and blood fringe stars and academy talents.

Therefore, I believe he has made a big error taking a number of senior stars on the trip to Germany, when he could have handed them a couple of days rest. Better still, they could have stayed at home and continued to train as a first-team at Hotspur Way.

The likes of Heung Min Son, Lucas Moura, Davinson Sanchez, and Toby Alderweireld have already played a lot of football under Mourinho and could surely do with a rest.

What if Son picked up an injury in a nothing game? What would be the point?

If you ask me, it is high risk with no reward at all from Mourinho. Even if he doesn’t play them, it’s a wasted chance to give them a rest at home.

He should have taken youngsters and fringe players only, playing the likes of Foyth, Tanganga, Rose, Walker-Peters, Skipp, Wanyama, Lo Celso, Parrott, Sessegnon, and Eriksen.
