Opinion: Juan Foyth is an answer – not the answer

Walker-Peters is a decent second-choice right-back to have in the squad.

Serge Aurier is a liability and should never play for Spurs again.

Davinson Sanchez has a lot of potential, but not at right-back.

Moussa Sissoko is wasted in defence and hasn’t got the necessary experience.

Up step Juan Foyth.

In my view, the young Argentine has the right-back spot nailed down by default at the moment, purely because he is the only player not to have made a mistake there.

Granted, this comes as he has yet to play a single minute for Tottenham this season. However, Foyth did look good at right-back against Man City last season and has some experience there for Argentina now too.

Foyth has played two games at right-back for his international side in the past five days, with a 2-2 draw with Germany and a 6-1 win over Ecuador.

However, I don’t want Foyth to be confused with THE solution. He is only one possible solution. In my opinion, a young central defender has to look extremely good at right-back to make the permanent conversion. If he is anything short of amazing, Spurs simply must invest in someone who is in January or next summer.

It is not the time for makeshift answers or saving money on squad players. Spurs have to be ambitious, now or never.
