Tottenham Hotspur have always produced a number of top-class academy prospects, with the most notable currently being Harry Kane and Harry Winks.
However, this pre-season has given a new crop the platform to impress Pochettino and the fans, with the likes of Troy Parrott, Japhet Tanganga, Kyle Walker-Peters, Oliver Skipp, George Marsh, Harvey White, Jack Roles, and Anthony Georgiou all taking to the pitch against Juventus.
For me, Tanganga stood out as a particularly impressive-looking starlet, as he sat comfortably alongside Toby Alderweireld, dealing with Ronaldo and Mandzukic with relative ease.
I believe that Japhet could be used as a fourth-choice central defender this season, with Foyth moving out to right-back more often than not.
However, with this development may come the end of another. Cameron Carter-Vickers was left out of Spurs’ pre-season tour squad in order to recover from injury. As a result, he may have just seen his spotted stolen by another academy prospect.
In my opinion, Carter-Vickers has had his chances to impress and Pochettino clearly isn’t keen enough to have given him a shot in the first team yet.
Perhaps the USA international will be given one last shot once he returns from injury, but I would guess that another loan spell or sale is more likely.
Who would you rather use next season, Carter-Vickers or Tanganga?
