Opinion: New Years resolutions – Five things Spurs must look to do in 2020

Tottenham Hotspur had a very exciting 2019, reaching the Champions League Final, but a very uneventful decade as a whole, not winning a single trophy.

Spurs last lifted a piece of silverware back in 2008 when they won the Carling Cup Final, but nothing new has entered the trophy cabinet since.

Let’s take a look at the five things that Spurs should look to do in 2020:

Replace Eriksen –

It looks as if Eriksen will be on the way out either in January or the summer, so Spurs must start looking for a replacement. Say what you want about the Great Dane, he has been one of the best playmaker’s in the world over the past seven years. He will take some replacing and Spurs will need to spend money to do it.

Make the top four –

Levy is tight with money at the best of times, so missing out on the Champions League for next season would surely only tighten the purse strings further. Spurs need to maintain their top-four spot and build upon that with another positive Champions League campaign.

Minutes for Skipp, Tanganga, and Parrott –

Whether this comes at Spurs or on loan, I do not mind, but these lads need to be playing regular football to progress. It’s as simple as that.

New contracts –

Levy needs to start working on new contracts for the likes of Eric Dier, Heung Min Son, Oliver Skipp, Japhet Tanganga, Troy Parrott, and more. If Mourinho wants to keep Jan Vertonghen, then him too. Is a new Eriksen deal too much to ask for?

A trophy… please!

The 2020 FA Cup… could the wait finally be over?
