Opinion: Newcastle game showed that Tottenham need to sign this player tomorrow

Tottenham Hotspur suffered yet another Premier League defeat yesterday to add to their mountain last season as Newcastle United won 1-0 at the new Spurs stadium.

Spurs looked out of ideas after about ten minutes as their casual and sloppy sideways passing bored fans and made the job easy for the travelling Newcastle.

After the Lilywhites went 1-0 down, they bossed possession, but did not come close to actually doing anything with it.

The likes of Kane, Moura, and Son failed to get a sniff of the goal, and Winks, Sissoko, Lamela and co failed to create any space or significant chances.

On a day in which Spurs were far from their best and seemed unable to muster the skill needed to put the ball in the back of the net, perhaps it would have been the ideal scenario for a certain Fernando Llorente.

The Spaniard has the ability to save the day in games like that with knockdowns in damaging areas or headed goals from nothing.

I really do see him as Mr Plan B and, at the moment, I don’t think Pochettino does have a back-up plan when his team are playing poorly.

Llorente is still available on a free after leaving Spurs in June.

Get him back in.
