Opinion: Our dream XI to take on Man City – With Dele Alli up front

Tottenham welcome Man City to the new stadium this weekend as they look to make up ground on Chelsea who dropped two points away to Leicester on Saturday afternoon.

With the transfer window now closed and new players in place, we thought we would look at the team we would love Mourinho to play, rather than the one we think he will.

We have gone for Hugo Lloris in goal, behind a central duo of Toby Alderweireld and Japhet Tanganga. While Davinson Sanchez should eventually move into Toby’s place, he needs a run of games again to get his confidence back first.

Serge Aurier and Ryan Sessegnon remain the only two natural options at full-back for the match. However, we have chosen Winks to act as a sweeper shield just in front of the back four to help out.

Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso then make up a dynamic duo in the centre of the pitch, both capable of starting attacks from deep, but also getting stuck in.

Heung Min Son and new boySteven Bergwijn line up on the wings. Although it may be too soon for Bergwijn, he would be an unknown quantity for Man City to deal with.

Dele Alli is then chosen as a false nine figure up front, with no real strike option. This gives Spurs height in the box, but also someone who can drop back, collect the ball, and feed the wingers in behind.
