Opinion: Player ratings from Tottenham vs Rangers in pre-season – Second half

Tottenham Hotspur were back in action in pre-season today, this time playing back in the United Kingdom with a trip to Rangers on the cards.

Let’s take a look at how the players got on in the second half (1-2):

Hugo Lloris – 6 – Barely had anything to do in the second half before being replaced by Fraser Forster.

Lucas Moura – 6.5 – Showed good energy at right-wing-back, then switched to left-wing later in the half. Having these utility players will be hugely important to Conte this season.

Cristian Romero – 7 – He only has one performance in him, and that’s defending on the front foot, either taking the ball or the man. Another solid 80 minutes.

Eric Dier – 7 – Really dominant in the challenge and in the air again. Went off after taking a knock to the foot/ankle, but hopefully it isn’t anything serious.

Davinson Sanchez – 7.5 – Actually looked better in the second half with some nice back post defending, which got a few rounds of applause from his new mate Ivan Perisic.

Ryan Sessegnon – 7.5 – I was so impressed with his pressing for his entire stint on the pitch. Sess was consistently the first to get into the faces of the Rangers defenders and got rewarded for his efforts.

Yves Bissouma – 7 – Looked composed and comfortable on the ball, albeit without doing anything out of this world. A nice first stint on the pitch for the midfielder.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg – 7.5 – It looks like Hojbjerg will continue to be Conte’s general in the engine room at the start of the new season. Some of the best fitness levels out there.

Dejan Kulusevski – 6 – Booked for diving before coming off early in the second half. A great first 45 but not much to speak of in his second-half cameo.

Heung-min Son – 8 – Two goals for Kane will be the headline, but two assists for Sonny too. You just can’t keep these two away from each other!

Harry Kane – 9 – What a goal from the Spurs striker. Cuts onto his right in the box and lashes it into the top corner, almost taking the net off. Scored his second as it popped up in the box and he smashed it beneath the keeper’s arm. He’s been on fire this pre-season!

Substitutes:

Ivan Perisic – 7.5 – Impressed me the most out of any new signing out there. Pressed high, got stuck into challenges, crossed, defended. Loved seeing him in a Spurs shirt.

Richarlison – 7 – A great cameo from Richarlison playing both wide right and wide left. Unfortunately, every time he got past his man, he was chopped down.

Djed Spence – 6 – Came on and made an important tackle in his own box within 30 seconds. Didn’t see too much of him going forward, but good minutes under his belt.

Fraser Forster – 6.5 – Actually saw more action than Lloris in his shorter stint on the pitch. Forster made a couple of saves, including a catch from close ranger when the attacker should have scored.

Clement Lenglet – 6 – Looked very calm and confident on the ball. You can definitely tell when a left-footer is playing on the left side of defence. Could be crucial with Ben Davies out for a little bit.

Bryan Gil – 6 – Came on and showed that energy we associate with him now, pressing all across the pitch like Erik Lamela used to.

Joe Rodon – 6 – Good to see the Welshman back involved having missed the trip to South Korea with Covid.

Japhet Tanganga – N/A

Pape Matar Sarr – N/A
