Opinion: Player ratings from Tottenham’s 0-0 draw with Everton

Tottenham Hotspur saw out a hard-fought 0-0 draw with Everton today in Antonio Conte’s first match in charge, with some positives to take and plenty to still work on.

Let’s take a look at how the individual players got on:

Hugo Lloris – 7.5 – Barely had a save to make beyond one from range. However, he was very quick off his line to head away a few balls over the top. Just about got his glove on the ball to get the penalty overturned too.

Emerson Royal – 8 – Really impressive getting up and down all match. Added an avenue of attack without compromising the team defensively. Won the ball back time and time again and was quality on it. Needs to get more crosses in though.

Cristian Romero – 7 – Looked very solid and comfortable at the back. I still feel his long-term home is in the centre. His long-range passing was a little hit and miss today. Needlessly got involved in a head-to-head confrontation with Richarlison.

Eric Dier – 7 – Generally dealt with aerial balls pretty well. Played people onside a couple of times. Wanted a little more from him in terms of stepping out as the central defender in a back three, but I’m nit-picking a little.

Ben Davies – 8 – Quality performance. A good option to have at left-center-back. He sat in there and covered for Reguilon’s marauding runs and his mistakes too. Also underlapped in attack at times and threw himself into challenges. Really impressed.

Sergio Reguilon – 6 – On the plus side, he got forward really well, put in some dangerous crosses and covered so much ground. On the downside, he looked extremely suspect at the back and he was very wasteful with his passing.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg – 6 – Similar to Reguilon in that he worked so hard and covered so much ground but didn’t use the ball well enough and gave it away a lot. Off the ball, he was a lot better in winning it back and throwing himself about.

Oliver Skipp – 8.5 – Lots of work for Skipp and Hojbjerg to get through, but Skippy was just so much tidier with the ball at his feet, which was definitely needed in the engine room. He also won it back time and time again, setting the tempo.

Lucas Moura – 6.5 – Got into some great pockets and had some nice interplay with Emerson on the right but his final ball let him down today. The few times he did get past his man, he was fouled.

Heung-min Son – 6 – Not as at home in the number ten pocket as Moura, Son is definitely having to adapt more than some of his teammates. Once again, it was just the final pass that let him down and he struggled to find his place in the game.

Harry Kane – 6.5 – He was definitely involved in the game a lot more than recent weeks, linking up play and creating forward chances. Put a good chance on a plate for Reguilon. At times, like the other forwards, his final pass was just a little off. No chances himself.

Substitutes:

Giovani Lo Celso – 5.5 – Came on to create and was so wasteful on the ball until he smashed an effort from range and hit the post! Wasted a late corner.

Matt Doherty – 6 – Offered a nice inverted outlet of attack on the left.

Tanguy Ndombele – N/A
