Opinion: Player ratings from Tottenham’s 1-0 win against Burnley

Tottenham Hotspur are up to fourth in the Premier League again thanks to a hard-fought impressive 1-0 win over Burnley.

Let’s take a look at how the individual players got on:

Hugo Lloris – 7.5 – Hugo didn’t have too many saves to make but there was one extremely important one at 1-0. This season, the captain has stepped up when needed more often than not.

Emerson Royal – 8 – Looked extremely assured at the back and seems to be offering more going the other way too now. Would love to see him take on players 1v1 more, but Emerson is in great form.

Davinson Sanchez – 7.5 – Filling the shoes of Cristian Romero is no easy task but Sanchez has done his job very well over the past two games. No mistakes today and lots of great physical defending down the right.

Eric Dier – 8 – Solid as always at the back, Dier just kept things ticking over and snuffed out numerous Burnley attacks before they could get going. Very dominant in the air as usual.

Ben Davies – 7.5 – Much like Sanchez on the other side, Davies went about his work without any fuss. Apart from a couple of sloppy passes, he was defensively sound and tidy in attack.

Ryan Sessegnon – 8.5 – My man of the match. Sess was full of running all day long, won the ball back numerous times, and his attacks down the left always had quality. Put two great crosses in to create chances for Son.

Rodrigo Bentancur – 8 – He is a master of keeping things moving in the centre of the pitch while also recycling the ball away from danger and into space. He makes it look very easy, but you miss it when it’s not there.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg – 7.5 – Hitting some good form at the perfect time. Hojbjerg sat in all day to allow the wing-backs to push really high, mopping up any sniff of a Burnley counter. Always feel he is underappreciated.

Lucas Moura – 7 – Looked at his best when he was able to isolate someone 1v1 on the right-wing. Spurs arguably didn’t utilise that enough because he ghosted past his man a few times. Worked his socks off too.

Heung-min Son – 7 – Far from his best performance of the season, as he drifted in and out of the game. However, he did have two great chances to draw level with Salah in the Golden Boot race, but failed to find the back of the net.

Harry Kane – 7.5 – Struggled to get on the ball for large parts up front with Burnley’s low block, and was often crowded out when he dropped short. However, Kane stepped up to win the game from the spot when Spurs needed him.

Substitutes:

Dejan Kulusevski – 6 – Came on to add fresh legs and worked hard. Hopefully, he is over the stomach bug.

Joe Rodon – N/A
