Tottenham Hotspur were back to winning ways this afternoon in the Premier League as they beat Brighton 2-1 in North London.
Let’s take a look at how the individual players got on:
Hugo Lloris – 7 – Made one really great stop to deny Mac Allister in the first half, as well as a number of other more routine saves. Still looks nervy with the ball at his feet at times.
Pedro Porro – 7 – Made some really great late runs down the right side but Tottenham struggled to find that one killer ball to release him. On another day, he might have grabbed something at the back post.
Cristian Romero – 7 – A pretty typical Romero performance where he was by far Tottenham’s best defender but so clearly needs better people around him to take full advantage of his skills.
Eric Dier – 5.5 – The defence was all over the place at times today. Dier really should have been marking Dunk for Brighton’s goal. Some of his long-range passing was also hopeful at best.
Clement Lenglet – 6 – Not the best defensively but a little more impressive on the ball, which has been the theme of his season. Spurs seem to struggle defensively down the left.
Ivan Perisic – 6 – A bit of a strange performance today from Perisic. When he did get forward, he got into some good areas to make use of his fantastic crossing. But so often it was Skipp bursting down the left without any Perisic overlap in sight, which killed a fair few attacks.
Oliver Skipp – 7 – A great player off the ball when looking to defend or turn over possession. When Spurs break with the ball at his feet, he still doesn’t quite have the composure needed in the final third.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg – 5 – Far from his best on or off the ball today. Yes, he did very well to assist Kane at the end. But he also missed a great chance, was lucky not to give away a penalty, and gave away the ball far too often.
Dejan Kulusevski – 6.5 – Kulusevski had flashes of brilliance today down the right, but he still seems to be lacking the killer instinct for the final pass or shot that came so easily last season. Another example of how competition for places would benefit Spurs (as well as players back from injury).
Harry Kane – 7 – Wasn’t really in the game too much today as Brighton did a decent marking job on him, but Harry so often pops up with a winner when he’s had a quiet 90 minutes. World-class at running the clock down too.
Heung-min Son – 7.5 – I’m going to give Sonny my MOTM. He set Spurs up on the right path with his sensational goal, which was also his 100th in the Premier League. He was also tireless in tracking back, even if he was quiet at times at the other end. Not his best game ever, but a nice moment for him.
Substitutes:
Danjuma – 6 – Finally got a run out for 20 minutes. There wasn’t too much attacking to be done in that time but he got on the ball a few times.
Pape Matar Sarr – N/A
Japhet Tanganga – N/A
