Opinion: Player ratings from Tottenham’s 2-2 draw with Man United

Tottenham Hotspur earned a draw away at Old Trafford this evening in the Premier League, with Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin both making their debuts for the club.

Let’s take a look at how the individual players got on:

Guglielmo Vicario – 7 – Didn’t have too much to do in the way of making saves today, but he made so many confident claims to take the pressure off and was great with his feet all day.

Pedro Porro – 9 Even though Rashford got the better of Porro a good few times, I think the Spaniard won his fair share of the battles. Going the other way, he was nothing short of sensational on the ball.

Cristian Romero – 7.5 – Wasn’t quite as aggressive as normal and it’s always tough to decide whether that is a good or a bad thing. Man United’s goals both came down the right and you feel a fully fit Romero might have stopped one. A very good showing on his first game back though.

Micky Van de Ven – 8 – Got himself in one or two sticky situations, but apart from that it was a superb showing on his first start back. Udogie pushed so high today, Van de Ven covered expertly in behind and made some potentially goal-saving tackles against swift breaks. His cramp with a few minutes to go gave us all a heart-attack.

Destiny Udogie – 7.5 – A dangerman at both ends today. He took up all kinds of positions in the final third and was a thorn in the side of Man United. At the other end, he headed it against his own post and left a little too much space in behind at times.

Oliver Skipp – 7 – Struggled to get involved too much on the ball. A couple of lovely moments, including a sweeping, volleyed pass on the break and a great strike towards goal that deflected away. The set-up doesn’t quite suit him but you have to respect the effort he puts in off the ball.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg – 7 – Played some neat and tidy stuff today, although he often leaves you wanting a little more. Like Skipp, he doesn’t naturally fit the system and having both of them in the same XI slows things down at times. But he is always such a professional performer.

Rodrigo Bentancur – 9 – He ran the show yet again today, and not even in his best position. Playing a little further forward, he ended up being a box-to-box mastermind. He just keeps Spurs ticking over and makes it look so effortless. He also took his goal extremely well.

Brennan Johnson – 6 – Struggled to make himself a consistent threat today. A lot of his one-on-ones ended up in a corner or an overhit cross. Had a great chance to lay one on for Richarlison in the first half but smashed his cross way over the Brazilian.

Richarlison – 7.5 – Six goals in six games. Richarlison drifts in and out of matches but you can’t argue with his goals. He pops up with flashes that earn Tottenham points. His general play was also a lot better than usual today. Did some great defensive work from set-pieces too.

Timo Werner – 7 – Not a bad debut by any means. I wanted to see him take Wan Bissaka on one-on-one a little more, but you can understand that he is feeling his way in and doesn’t quite know the attacking patterns yet. Can’t argue with an assist on his debut.

Substitutes:

Bryan Gil – 6 – Came on to add fresh legs once Timo Werner tired on the left.

Radu Dragusin – N/A – Came on to make his debut in the final 10 minutes.

Emerson Royal – N/A
