Opinion: Player ratings from Tottenham’s 4-0 demolition of Sheffield United

Tottenham Hotspur put the Carabao Cup Final defeat behind them with a victory over Sheffield United in the Premier League this evening.

Let’s take a look at how the individual players got on:

Hugo Lloris – 6 – Wasn’t really in the game but made one decent save. At least he had a good view of the goals.

Serge Aurier – 9 – A great performance that showed all the best of Aurier without the defensive errors. A fantastic assist for Bale’s goal and more creativity after that, including a second assist!

Toby Alderweireld – 8.5 – Looked solid at the back and it was a pleasure to see his trademark crossfield balls again. Definitely still Spurs’ best centre-back for me.

Eric Dier – 7.5 – Dealt with most things rather well but still looks uncomfortable at times coming out of defence on his left foot. A new left-sided CB is needed.

Sergio Reguilon – 7.5 – A source of energy down the left side all evening, albeit without too much end product. He did pick out Kane nicely in one attack though.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg – 8 – With the shackles off, Hojbjerg was allowed to chase down every ball, turn over possession and start attacks for fun. What a player.

Giovani Lo Celso – 7.5 – Still lacking a bit of sharpness but looks infinitely better in the deep holding mid role where he can carry the ball up the pitch. Not a number 10.

Dele Alli – 7.5 – Showed his class in bursts. We need to remember that he has just three starts this season so fans need to be patient. I think Dele needs to keep things simple for now rather than dwelling on the ball and slowing things down. Pass and move.

Gareth Bale – 10 – Hat-trick… need I say more? That’s what Gareth Bale gives you. If you create chances, he puts the vast majority away. Get him back next season.

Harry Kane – 7 – A very quiet evening for the main man. He fluffed the few half-chances he got, although Kane did look very good when he dropped deep.

Heung-min Son – 9 – Much better from Son today, actually taking on his markers and making things happen. A goal and an assist to reward his efforts.

Substitutes:

Harry Winks – 6.5 – Knocked it about nicely and worked hard after coming on.

Steven Bergwijn – 7 – Nice to see him getting chances again. Recorded an assist.

Erik Lamela – 5 – A typical Lamela cameo.
